If you know me, you know I don’t really like chocolate.
However, one of my labmates took her pre-prelim today, and that’s cause for celebration in my book.
I don’t know if I’ve said before, but I’ll say it now: I love petebakes! I have tried lots of stuff there – and I’m slowing making my way through the entire website. Last night I made an apple pie using… (enter suspenseful music) apple pie filling. And what a bad idea that was. It was way too runny. So today, I am planning on making another one from scratch.
In about an hour or so, I’ll start on my pie crust. This should be exciting as I just bought a pastry cutter two days ago. I promise pictures of this one. I have to find a cool apple pie recipe though. (And I don’t like nuts)

My next adventure will be to the land of caramel cake. I came across the recipe on The Fabulous Life of I Dot’s blog.
Recipe:Yellow Cake -
3/4 cup butter (1 1/2 sticks)
1 cup milk
2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
2 3/4 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
2 cups sugar
1 tsp vanilla
Caramel Icing -
1 lb (2 3/4 cups) light brown sugar
1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
7 tbsp evaporated milk
1 tsp vanilla
It looks like a real headcaver (extra sweet)! So I think I may try to do something different with the icing. I’ll put up photos later!
